Must Be My Lucky Day

I’ve never considered myself as having good luck, but I did win a radio contest once.  Joey and I were driving down the highway listening to the radio and the DJ mentioned something about calling in to win a 6-pack of Lenny Kravitz CDs.  I had my cell phone in my hand and for some reason got a wild hair to call in.  Surprisingly, I won.  I was pretty non-plussed as I gave the DJ my info to send out my free CDs.  Then about a week later, I got a call from the radio station telling me that my name had been put in the drawing for the Grand Prize and that I had won.  The guy was kind of put-off by the fact that I wasn’t screaming with joy.  “Do you know what the grand prize is?” he asked me.  “Actually, no” I said.  Turns out, I had won an all-expense paid trip for two to Miami to see Lenny Kravitz and his band perform at their practice studio right before he kicked off his 2002 World Tour.  I was pretty surprised; as I hadn’t even heard anything about that when I called in.  It turned out to be an awesome trip, we stayed at a really cool art-deco hotel right on South Beach .  Mr. Kravitz was actually really sick the night of the “intimate show,” so he ended up performing acoustic, but it was really fun.

My good luck streak has resurrected itself this week, as I won Leah’s blog contest.  As my prize, she is going to knit me a pair of socks!  That has to be the most generous prize I’ve ever come across for a blog contest.  I have to say that I’m really excited as I’ve never had someone (other than myself) knit me a pair of socks.  I can’t wait to see how wonderful they are!

Oh, and my mom sent me some better pictures of Doc the horse, so I’ll share one of my dad riding him.

Achievements

How have I been doing with meeting the goals I set for this week?
545fe66691ecdd50906b507b52637a07.jpg *I completed the goal of knitting two pattern repeats on Thermal, which makes me happy. I’m getting pretty close to the part where I start the armhole shaping and the split for the neck.
* I cut out the fabric pieces for a reusable grocery bag last night, but I didn’t have big enough fabric scraps to make an entire bag! (This did lead me to do a little fabric stash organizing, though.)
* I have ripped out the neck stitches on Ms Marigold, but I can’t seem to remember how to pick up stitches. Even after watching an online video I just wasn’t getting it right. All the online descriptions I find don’t really go into enough detail for picking them up on the sides of a v-neck. I’ve set this one down for the moment, but might give it another go over the weekend.
So what if I’ve only met one of my three goals for this week? I’m still happy because I at least attempted to complete the other goals, even if I was hindered by unforeseen roadblocks.

They will be heading down to Houston tomorrow night to play a pre-season kickoff party for the Houston Rockets, which should be good exposure for them. I won’t be going because I’ve been invited to a Murder Mystery Dinner. (My character is a French medium and tarot card reader.) I’m pretty excited about it, and I’ll have to let you know how it goes.

Love Shack

I started quilting my quilt last night- boy it is some work to maneuver that thing through the machine!  Especially when your weenie of a basset hound, Henry is trying to hide from the thunderstorm underneath it!  I'm surprised he didn't get a pin in the behind (accidentally, of course.)

Tonight, my husband's wonderful band, The Valentines are going to be playing at the House of Blues opening up for the B-52's.  It should prove to be an eventful evening.  (I got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20 so hurry up and bring your juke box money!)

Surfin The Wave

After the ripple-ripping that took place on Friday, I was a little saddened. But I worked on it a little Saturday morning and a little again today, and got to this point:

Which is when I discovered that one of my ends was looking a little wonky (see it at the bottom of the photo?) So I posted pics of it on the ripple-a-long blog and got some help. Alas, there was more ripping in my future. I had to rip out all of the green and half of the grey. But now I've got it all figured out. (Hope those aren't famous last words!)
In other news, The Valentines got a band van this weekend! Here's Joey when he drove it up, and Austen being totally thrilled with it:

It's very clean on the inside, with comfy captain's chairs and a back bench seat that folds down into a bed. It also has a TV and crazy 'mood lighting'. We took it to their show in Denton last night and they hooked up the PS2 and played Guitar Hero on the way down there. We're all really excited because now road shows will be more fun.
